Strangulation and Hanging

چکیده
to the respiration from pressure applied externally to the air passages. The difference between the two lies in the manner in which the force producing this obstruction is applied. In strangulation the result is brought about by compression by the hand as in throttling, or by a rope or some such instrument, while in hanging the constricting force is the weight of the body which is more or less suspended. The importance of differentiating these modes of death consists in the fact that the presumption of culpability is very different in the two cases. In death from strangulation the presumption is strongly in favour of homicide or accident, while in hanging the great probability is that the death had been either suicidal or accidental.

Bilateral total Descemet’s membrane detachments after strangulation
The eyes of a 25-year-old male were collected by the Utah Lions Eye Bank after his suicide by hanging. Following dissection of the corneoscleral buttons from intact globes, bilateral detached Descemet's membranes with subsequent scrolling in the periphery were observed. We believe these findings were caused by a large increase in intraocular pressure secondary to the hanging. Lens and anterior ...

متن کاملUnintentional strangulation by a cervical collar after attempted suicide by hanging.
We report the case of a young man who attempted suicide by hanging and whose neurological status deteriorated until the cervical collar, that had been correctly placed by the prehospital team, was removed. We discuss the physiopathological mechanisms leading to death in hanging that is, a blockage of the blood stream to the brain leading to vasogenic and cytotoxic cerebral edema rather than asp...
